Retired teacher Mr Rypar (played with vulnerable humour by Alois Švehlík) is content with his quiet life which he fills by reading the latest edition of his favourite chess magazine and annoying his apartment building’s manager. One night, however, things change. Going up to his building’s roof Rypar comes across Song (Duy Anh Tran), a young Vietnamese student who has escaped from a marijuana den and is on the run from police. The two quickly begin to rely on each other, albeit reluctantly, for different reasons.
In On the Roof, actor-turned-director Jiří Mádl presents an unassuming story of a friendship developing against the odds. On the Roof screened at the 54th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Ticket includes Becherovka cocktails, Josef Chromy wines, and Mattoni sparkling water. Doors open at 6pm for a 7pm start.
